I spoke with a friend recently who was already going through depression. This is someone who knows and believe so much in God. He is very hard working and very optimistic about life.  However, due to challenges he never envisage, he was losing his sanity. 

As you journey through the year, hoping that things go according to plan. Be aware that there are some things you can control while some may not be within your control.
Your goal should be to focus on what you can control. As you do this, gradually what you can't control will begin to give way.

You may not be able to control your husband/wife's attitude, parent's actions, in-law's drama,  or friends from letting you down, but you can choose your response. People may do things that take you unaware, investment may fail, relationship may break, loss of job, and several  unexpected may happen. This isn't about being pessimistic, it is about preparing and equipping yourself in case the unexpected happen. This is one reason insurance exist. To help you mitigate unexpected loss. Same is applicable in your life. 

Instead of being taken unaware by circumstance that could make you slip into depression, frustration or suicide, invest in strengthening your mind and sanity. Maintain a heart of gratitude daily. Always look at other available options in any situation.
Take responsibility for your happiness. Never outsource or attach it to anything outside of you.

Lastly, you may think you don't have a choice when things go wrong, however, believing you don't have a choice is a choice. You always have other options that are most of the time better, if only you can think things through. 

NB: Seek professional help or consult a therapist if you are presently losing your sanity.
